Traveling Tipsy: A Bistro That Transports You to Europe

Shih Hsien Yuan's Award-Winning Design Offers a Unique Dining Experience

Shih Hsien Yuan's design, "Slight Tipsy of Traveling," is a bistro that takes its patrons on a visual journey to Europe. The design, which won the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2020, is a masterful blend of architecture, design, and innovation.

The design is inspired by the architecture and history of European cities. Shih Hsien Yuan has managed to reconstruct time, space, and society, creating an illusion of wandering on a European path. The corridor with a dome, the light spreading downwards from the curve surface onto the rock floor, and the vibrant yellow flowers and green leaves all reflect the beauty of nature.

The uniqueness of this design lies in its ability to provide an impressive experience and develop more functions in the dining areas. The designer has ingeniously merged lines and arcs, blending artistic elements through the mix of materials, furnishing, and color selection. The arrangement of seats creates a fluent flow, offering a new visual perception whenever customers sit down or get up.

The design was realized using various materials such as stone, cement polishing, red brick, wooden veneer, arrow tile, metal elements, and cloth. The project covers an area of 423 square meters, with metal elements utilized to an extreme, forming a stylish and elegant environment. The bar by the entrance is framed with metal arches, creating a mirror image illusion with the booth seating area.

The design works by presenting a rich visual perception and organized space arrangement with a proper layout. The core seating area is a combination of bar and booth seating, providing people with different forms of seats that meet their needs. As for color selection, bold colors like green, yellow, blue, purple, and pink are applied, creating a feast for the eyes.

This project was completed in 2019 in Tainan City, Taiwan. The underlying research for this design involved the use of the arch shape design from metal chain-link fences and red bricks symbolizing a trip to Europe. The challenge was to present extraordinary taste and dining phenomena through a mix of various materials and diverse furniture arrangement, while striking a balance between all the objects, making a huge number of visual elements into a harmonious space.

In conclusion, Shih Hsien Yuan's "Slight Tipsy of Traveling" is a unique blend of architecture, design, and innovation that offers a unique dining experience. The design not only provides a great meal but also a feast for all perceptions, transporting patrons on a visual journey to Europe.
